While the stay-at-home order is in effect, library staff will not be available at the library to answer phone calls or empty the book drop.  The book drop is closed.  Please hold on to your materials until further notice.  They will not be overdue.

You can also e-mail us at iolaref@sekls.org.  Or you can text to iolaref@sekls.org. If you text, please include your name in the body of the text, as otherwise the text will not identify you.

Online Story Time

A story time will be held on Zoom weekly on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m.  To attend, go to https://zoom.us/meetings and use the meeting ID 98740402289

Wi-fi

Our wi-fi service remains on. You can usually access it from outside the library building.

The books you have checked out currently

All materials currently checked out have had the due date extended to May 11.  If it becomes necessary, we will extend that further.  You do not need to call to renew books before the library re-opens.

Reliable information about the coronavirus.

We’ve added a page to our web site listing some sites with reliable information.  There are also a couple of sites to help distinguish fact from rumor.  Click on the “Coronavirus Information” tab at the top  of this page.

Digital books and other electronic resources available to you

We have a variety of e-books and other electronic resources available to you. Most of them are always available, and some are temporarily being made available by vendors for free. See below.

Digital Book eLending is a statewide service of the State Library of Kansas in cooperation with other partners. We regularly contribute to purchase new e-books or e-audiobooks for this service. You can check out materials for 3 weeks. To use most components of Digital Book eLending you will need a Kansas Library eCard. If you don’t have one, please either e-mail us or call us during the times shown above and we can get you registered. The link to Digital Book eLending is in the left column of this page.

Hoopla offers e-books, e-audiobooks, comic books, movies, music, and more. This is a service offered through the Southeast Kansas Library System. You can use your Iola library card to check out materials on Hoopla. The link to Hoopla is in the left column of this page.  The monthly borrowing limit per card has been temporarily raised from 5 to 15.

Internet Archive National Emergency Library has 1.4 million titles which will be available through June 30 or until the national emergency is over, whichever is longer.  These books are mostly 20th century nonfiction books from academic library collections.

Online Databases and other digital services are provided to all Kansans through subscriptions paid by the State Library of Kansas. Databases cover such areas as auto repair, genealogy, history, learning a language, career guidance, business, and much more. Most of the time you will be able to use them merely by clicking on the links on the State Library web site. When that doesn’t work, you can use your Kansas Library eCard (mentioned above). You can find the databases by going to https://kslib.info/145/View-Collections and clicking on “Online Databases”.

Keep watch here and on our Facebook page as we share more information over the coming days.
